Bishop meets Governor
Bishop Chuck Leigh, President of the Florida Council of Churches met with Governor Charlie Crist. Chuck stated that "We were
able to get a committment from the governor to reinstate funding for children's health that had been removed from the medicaide
budget. He also committed to back summer nutrition funding for poor children."

Christianity is at a critical crossroads. After two millenia the
voice of Christ is a whisper barely audible while a distorted message, counter to Christ's teachings, prevails. The "Christ
lite" of today is Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "Cheap Grace" taken to an entirely new and dangerous level.
You are visiting
a site named for the Beatitudes preached by Jesus on the Mount. We are a community striving to live the love that is Jesus
Christ. We live in the midst of war, poverty and gross social injustice. We seek others, weak like us, who, like us, cannot
discern much of Jesus teaching in our present society.
The Church of the Beatitudes declares a oneness with Christ's
teachings. We declare, as in ancient Israel, a "Jubilee Year" when wealth was redistributed, love of the poor demanded, and
God's reign acknowledged. We believe that the present "Culture of Death" stands opposite the reign of God, the Living Light
of Jesus Christ.
We look around us and see the air we breathe, our wildlife, our foliage, our water, our oceans and
our very planet are decaying rapidly. We will bequeath to our children's children a place devoid of the beauty God designed.
Our world will instead reflect the Godless life we ourselves, through social sin, prefer at such an enormous cost. We refuse
to see that in the love of God and love of neighbor lies God's eloquent plan for our own salvation as well as God's creation.
We proclaim that in Christ Jesus there is hope and not despair. Joy and not sorrow. Truth and not deceit. Jesus tells us that
He is the WAY, the TRUTH, the LIFE. God is not to be deceived nor postponed until another day. Today is the time, now the
moment. We must demonstrate the courage and the humility to begin anew a reapproachment with God. Join us and share this burden,
for Jesus Himself has promised that it would be light. Let us discover that fact together in this church community of the
Beatitudes.
